P8&9- Forces and Motion Flashcards
What is the triangle of speed, time and distance?
Distance
———
Time / Speed
How do you calculate Acceleration?
(End Velocity - Initial Velocity)/time
What is the velocity, time, acceleration triangle?
End Velocity - Initial Velocity
———–
Time / acceleration
What is a vector quantity?
It measures the magnitude (how big something is) and direction.
What is a scalar quantity?
It only measures magnitude (how big something is).
What movement does a balanced force do?
Stays still or is travelling at a constant speed.
How do you find the resultant force?
It is a single force form two or more forces acting together.
Two forces, 3 newtons (N) and 2 N, act to the right. Calculate the resultant force?
3 N + 2 N = 5 N to the right
A force of 5 N acts to the right, and a force of 3 N act to the left. Calculate the resultant force?
5 N - 3 N = 2 N to the right
The equation for force?
Force= mass x acceleration
If the force of a object is 20N and the mass is 2kg what is the acceleration of that object?
A=F/M A=20/2=10m/s^2
How do you find the weight?
Weight = mass x gravitational field strength (9.8)
How to calculate the work done on an object when a force moves it?
Work Done = Force x Distance
How do you find final velocity?
Final velocity= acceleration x time + initial velocity
How do you calculate the average velocity?
Average Velocity = total speed/total time
What does equilibrium mean?
When all the forces that act upon an object are balanced, then the object is said to be in a state of equilibrium. If an object is at equilibrium, then the forces are balanced.
How do you calculate the moment of a force?
moment, M= force, F x the perpendicular distance from
the line of action of the force to
the pivot.
A force of 50N is exerted on a claw hammer of length 0.30m. Calculate the moment of the force?
Moment = 50N x 0.30m = 15Nm
