P5 Forces and Motion Flashcards
Definition
Distance
Displacement
Distance-How far an object has moved and doesnt involve direction. Scalar
Displacement-Measures distance and direction in a straight line from an objects starting point to their end.
Equation and definiton
Acceleration
Acceleration is the change in velocity in a certain amount of time.
a= Change in velocity/time
Uniform acceleration
v^2 - u^2= 2as
Newtons 1st/2nd/3rd law
1-An object will remain at rest or constant velocity unless acted upon by a resultant force
2-A resultant force will cause an object to acclerate
3-Action and reaction are equal and opposite
Terminal velocity
The final velocity you can reach in the air as there is less air resistance.
Factors affecting
Thinking distance
Braking distance
Thinking-Tiredness/Drugs/Alcohol
Braking-COndition of brakes/tyres mass of car
Momentum equation
P=m x v
Stopping distance
This is the distance it takes to stop and is
Stopping=Thinking+braking
Rules of momentum in a close system
Momentum before an event=Momentum after an event
