P5 Flashcards
How do you hear things
soundwave travels through ear canal
vibrates ear drum
vibrations travel along the ear bones (ossicles)
cochlea trasnmits the vibratins to the cilia
cilia converts to electrical signals
auditory nerve carries electrical signal
how does an ultra sound scan work
transmitter on skin wave reflected at boundaires reflected waves are recieved and an image forms can calculate depth distance = speed*time
what are the dangerous electromagnetic waves
UV -damage and cause cancer
X-ray - damage and cause cancer
gamma - kill cells and can damage and caue cancer
hwo to measure the speed of sound
two people set distance apart
one makes a noise
measure time between seeing and hearing the clap
speed = distance/ time
OR
micorphones oscilloscope
signal generator attatched to speakers known freuency sound
move one microphone further away until the waves on the oscilloscopes line up again
what is the relationship between angle of incidence and angle of reflection
they are equal
