P5 Flashcards
Define an interaction pair.
A pair of forces that are equal in strength, but opposite in direction.
What is resultant force?
The sum of all the forces acting on an object.
What is Newton‘s first law?
If the resultant force is zero - the object remains stationary or is traveling at a constant speed.
What is Newton‘s second law?
Force = mass x acceleration
What is Newton‘s third law?
for every action there is an equal sized force in the opposite direction
Define inertia.
The property of an object to remain in a constant state Unless acted on by an external resultant force.
What is thinking distance?
The distance the car travels before the brakes are applied.
Which factors affect thinking distance?
The faster you're going, The futher you’ll travel during your reaction time, Tiredness, Drugs, Alcohol, Age.
What is breaking distance?
The distance a car travel during its deceleration whilst brakes are being applied.
Which factors affect breaking distance?
Speed, Mass, Road surface, Weather conditions, Tyres, Quality of brakes.
Equation for momentum.
Momentum(kg m/s) = mass (kg) x velocity (m/s)
