P4 (Electric Circuits) Flashcards
What is a cell?
Pushes the electrons
What is a switch?
Enables you to break and complete a circuit
What is a bulb?
Emits light when current flows through it
What is a fixed resistor?
Limits the current in a circuit
What is a variable resisitor?
Allows the current in a circuit to be varied
What is a thermistor?
Allows the current depending on the temperature
What is a fuse?
Is designed to melt and break the circuit if the current is too great
What is a diode?
Allows the current through in only one direction
What is a light emitting diode (LED)?
Emits light when current passes through it
What is a light-dependent resistor (LDR)?
Decreases in resistance as light intensity increases
What is an ammeter?
Used to measure electric current
What is a voltmeter?
Used to measure electric potential difference
Ohm’s Law
The current through a conductor (at constant temperature) is directly proportional to the voltage across two points
