P4 Flashcards
What do field lines represent?
Field lines represent magnetic flux and magnetic flux density (The number of lines passing through a particular area)
What does the density of the field lines show you?
The strength of a magnetic field
What is an induced magnet
A magnet that is produced when a magnetic material is placed in a magnetic field
Why do compasses point north?
If you hang up a magnet, it will line up so that one end points towards the magnetic North Pole.
What is the magnetic field around a wire?
There is a magnetic field around a wire that is carrying a current. If the current is coming towards you, the field lines were anti-clockwise
If the current is coming towards you…
The field lines were anti-clockwise
What is the strength of a magnetic field measured in?
The strength of a magnetic field is measured in Tesla’s (T)
What is a solenoid?
It is a coil of wire. A coil is made from many parallel loops.
How can you make a field/ a solenoid stronger?
Adding a magnetic material inside the core
Increasing the number of coils
