P3.1.1 Xrays Flashcards
What sort of tissue can Xrays pass through easily / is not absorbed by?
Soft Tissue.
What sort of tissue can Xrays not pass through / is absorbed by?
Dense Tissue.
How is an image created using Xrays?
Photographic paper / CCD is placed behind the body part. Xray that pass through turn it dark creating a negative image of the bones.
Give 2 limitations of Xrays.
They are highly ionising so having too many can be harmful and they cannot be used to give a clear image of soft tissue.
What can high energy X-rays also be used for?
Killing cancer cells during radiotherapy.
How does a CT scan use Xrays to form a 3d image?
Xrays create multiple images “slices” from different angles which are pieced together to form a 3d image. Only CCDs can be used.
