Q

Explain why you may get an electric shock if you walk in a nylon carpet and then touch a metal radiator

A

While walking on the carpet there will be two insulators (shoes and carpet) rubbing each other
Consequently, electrons will get transferred in between the shoes and the carpet leaving behind charged ions (positively or negatively)
The more they rub the more the static electricity builds up and when we touch a metal, which is a conductor, electrons will move to the Earth (current) and we will feel an electric shock.

A

22
Q

Is the big line or the little line the positive terminal in a battery / cell

A
23
Q

How does lighting form

A

In a storm, clouds move over each other
This causes them to become charged when electrons are transferred between them

Since the ground is neutral, the negative charges from the cloud jump to meet the positive charges on the ground creating a giant spark (a current from a transfer of charge)

This phenomenon is known as lightning

24
Q

What is an electric field

A

a region where charges experience a force
