P3 - Energy Resources Flashcards
What fuels are used to generate electricity, and where are they used?
Uranium and Plutonium is used in nuclear power stations.
Biofuels, oil, coal and gas are used in normal steam-powered stations.
Renewable resources like wind and the sun are used to produce some energy too.
How is wind power generated?
Turbine on a tall tower with large propellers, that then wires down to the ground.
How is wave power generated?
Waves turn a floating generator up and down, generating electricity. The generator is wired up to the shoreline to get the energy to land.
How is hydroelectric power generated?
Rainwater is collected in a reservoir, then flowed downhill to turn generators at the bottom of the hill.
How is tidal power generated?
Traps water from high tide behind barrage, then released back into the sea through turbines. The turbines drive the generators to produce electricity.
