P3 - Energy Resources Flashcards
Where does most of the energy you use come from?
Burning fossil fuels, mostly gas or coal. Supplied by gas or electricity generated in coal or gas fired power station.
How are fossil fuels acquired?
Extracted from underground or under the sea bed and transported to oil refineries or power stations
What is non renewable?
Cannot be replaced
Examples of non renewable energy
Fossil fuels
Oil
Gas
Coal
Nuclear fuel
What are examples of renewable energy?
Wind
Hydroelectricity
Solar
How do power stations work?
The burning fuel heats water in a boiler thaf produces steam. The steam drives a turbine that turns an electricity generator
What is a biofuel?
A fuel taken from living or recently loving organisms.
What are examples of biofuels?
Methane
Animals waste
Waste vegetable oil and rapeseed
Ethanol
What is a renewable resource?
What does carbon neutral mean?
