P2.2 Forces Flashcards
What is drag?
Drag is a force that acts against moving objects (air resistance).
What does a force do to an object?
It changes the shape, speed or direction of an object.
How do you calculate acceleration?
Force divided by mass.
How do you calculate mass?
Force divided by acceleration.
How do you calculate force?
Mass multiplied by acceleration.
What is force measured in?
Newtons.
What is the resultant force?
The overall force acting on an object.
What is Terminal Velocity?
The point when the forces of drag and upthrust on a falling object are equal.
What is Contact Force?
When two forces push against one another.
What is Newton’s Second Law of Motion?
Force = Mass x Acceleration
What is Newton’s Third Law?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Name 8 forces:
Resistance, push, friction, pull, weight, thrust, reaction, upthrust
What do force diagrams use to show the size of forces?
Different sized arrows.
How do you calculate resultant force?
resultant force = biggest force - smallest force
Define thinking distance
The distance you travel during reaction time.
