P2 - Specific Heat Capacity Flashcards
1
Q
Specific heat capacity equation
A
Energy transferred J = mass (kg) x specific heat capacity (J/KG) x temperature change (degrees celsius).
2
Q
If an object has a greater mass, what will the temperature be like?
A
- The greater the mass of an object, the more slowly its temperature will increase.
3
Q
What appliances can be used to heat houses?
A
- Electric/Gas heaters, oil fired central heating or solid fuel stoves.
4
Q
How can the rate of energy transfer from houses be reduced?
A
- Loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, double glazed windows, aluminium foil behind radiators and external walls with thicker bricks and lower thermal conductivity.
5
Q
What is cavity wall insulation?
A
- Insulation material that is used to fill the cavity between the 2 brick layers of an eternal house wall.
