P2: Forces And Motion Flashcards
What would the distance time graph of a body moving at a constant speed, then eventually coming to a stop look like?
diagonal line then a horizontal line
What does constant velocity on a velocity time graph look like?
A horizontal line
How do u calculate the speed of a body from the slope of the distance time graph?
Calculate the gradient. Distance/time
What does the slope on a velocity time graph represent?
Acceleration
How do u calculate the distance travelled by a body from a velocity time graph?
Area underneath
What is speed?
How fast you are going with no regard to the direction
What is velocity?
How fast you are going but also in a specified direction
What does a curve mean on a distance time graph?
Acceleration/Deceleration
What is acceleration?
How quickly the velocity is changing. This change in velocity can be a change in direction, speed or both
What are the units for acceleration?
m/s^2
What does a curve mean on a velocity time graph?
Increasing acceleration
What is gravitational force?
Force of attraction between all mass
What are the effects of gravitational force?
On the surface of the planet, it will make things accelerate towards the ground.
It gives everything a weight
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is the amount of stuff in an object (in kg/g)
Weight is caused by the pull of the gravitational force (N)
An object will have the same mass whether on earth or the moon, but it’s weight will be different
What is the unit for gravitational field strength?
N/kg
