Q
What did Grossman’s longitudinal study show?
A
Grossman’s longitudinal study showed that while men’s quality of infant attachment did not predict adolescent attachment, the quality of play that they had did. Suggesting that fathers have a different, but important, role which focuses on play stimulation rather than nurturing.

Q
What did Field also show?
A
Field had also shown when fathers take on the role of main caregiver, they adopt behaviours typical of mothers such as smiling, imitating and holding infants. This suggests that the father can be the nurturing attachment figure when he is a responsible carer.
