Explain the creation and use of steam for turbines
Fossil fuels are burnt to turn water into steam. This steam turns a turbine, which turns a generator.
What are some other ways of generating electricity?
Solar,wind, tidal, wave and hydroelectric

What are the different parts of the national grid?
Power station- step up transformer- national grid- step down transformer- homes.
Why are step up and step down transformers necessary?
Stepped up because higher voltage and lower current means less heat loss than if it was lower voltage and higher current. Stepped back down to be safe for use.
What are advantages and disadvantages of pylons?
Easy to repair, relatively cheap.
Ugly, make noise, can be damaged by weather.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of underground pipes?
Aren’t ugly, can’t be damaged by weather.
Could be damaged by animals, expensive, hard to maintain.
Give advantages and disadvantages of using coal.
Cheap, found in many places, easy to transport.
Have to create mines to extract it, miners get ill, produce polluting gases, non-renewable.
Give advantages and disadvantages of using oil.
Transported through pipes, found al over the world.
Non-renewable, working at an oil rig is dangerous.
