P12 Flashcards
What is the equation for wave speed?
V = f Y
Wave speed = frequency x Wavelength
What a longitudinal wave?
A wave where the oscillations are parallel to the direction that the wave is travelling.
What is a transverse wave?
A wave where the oscillations are perpendicular to the direction that the wave is transmitting energy
What is mechanical wave movement?
These waves require a medium to travel through, and transfer energy.
Wave mediums include:
-gases
-liquids
-solids
What is electromagnetic wave movement?
These waves can travel through a vacuum because no medium is required to transfer the waves energy
What are sound waves categorised as?
Sound waves are longitudinal waves which are mechanical in movement
What is reflection?
When light bounces off a surface and onto another surface before into the eye.
What is refraction?
When a light enters a new medium of a differing density which cause the light to bend
What do sound waves travel in?
Compressions
