P10 Revision Flashcards
What is the equation for momentum?
Momentum = Mass x Velocity
What is the equation for weight?
Weight = Mass x Gravitational field strength
What is the equation for the force applied to a spring?
Force applied to a spring = Spring constant (N/m) x Extension
What is the equation for distance?
Distance = Speed x Time
What is the equation for acceleration?
Acceleration = Change in velocity
____________________
Time taken
What is the equation for resultant force?
Resultant force = Mass x Acceleration
What is the equation for kinetic energy?
Kinetic energy = 1/2 x Mass x (Speed)^2
What is the equation for stopping distance?
Stopping distance = Thinking time + Braking time
What is acceleration?
The acceleration of an object is a measure of how quickly its velocity changes
What is speed?
Speed is the time rate at which an object’s position changes
What is the equation for force?
Force = Mass x Acceleration
What is weight?
The weight of an object is the force of gravity on it
What is mass?
The mass of an object is the quantity of matter on it
What is velocity?
The velocity of an object is its speed in a particular direction
What is momentum?
Momentum is a measurement of mass in motion
What is the equation for Newton’s 2nd Law?
Resultant force = Mass x Acceleration
What is Hooke’s Law?
The force applied to an elastic object is directly proportional to its extension
How do you calculate distance travelled on a graph (straight line)?
Find the area under the line
How do you calculate the distance on a graph (curved line)?
Find the number of squares under the curve
What affects the braking distance?
- mass and speed of vehicle (increases vehicle’s kinetic energy, which has to reach 0 for it to stop)
- state of vehicle brakes (worn out/faulty brakes won’t be able to apply as much pressure to the wheel to stop the vehicle quickly)
- state of road (icy or wet roads means less friction between the tyres and the road, causng the vehicle to travel further)
What affects the thinking distance?
- speed of vehicle (the faster the vehicle is travelling, the further it goes)
- reaction time (tired, drunk, drugs, distracted will increase reaction time)
What is braking distance?
Distance taken to stop under the braking force
What is thinking time?
How far the vehicle travels during the driver’s reaction time
What is the equation for energy in stopping distance?
Energy = Force x Distance
Acceleration is directly propotrional to…
the resultant force acting on it (as the force increases, the acceleration increases)
What are inelastic collisions?
Objects stick together after collision, kinetic energy is not conserved
What are elastic collisions?
Objects separate after collision, kinetic energy is conserved
What is compression?
Two pushing forces acting on an object
What is tension?
Two pulling forces acting on an object
What is terminal velocity?
When the force acting on the object is equal to its weight (resultant force is zero, therefore acceleration is zero)
