P10 - Forces And Motion Flashcards
Equation for momentum?
M = mass * velocity
Conservation of momentum equation?
(Mass A * Velocity of A) = - (Mass of B * Velocity of B)
‘-‘ tells you that momentum B is opposite to A, opposite and equal.
The longer the impact time….
The more the impact force is reduced.
E. Acceleration?
A = change in Velocity / time taken
E. Force?
F = mass * change in Velocity / time taken
E. Impact force?
Impact force = change of momentum / impact time
How do cycle helmets and cushioned surfaces reduce impact forces?
By increasing impact time.
How do air bags and seat belts help?
By spreading the force over a bigger area and increasing impact time.
How can you find the speed of a car before an impact?
Conservation of momentum.
E. Hooke’s law?
Force applied = spring constant * extension
F=k*e
Extension of the spring is directly proportional to…
The force applied ( as long as the limit of proportionality isn’t exceeded.)
E. Extension?
Extension = length at stage - original length
When is an object elastic?
If it returns to its original shape after removing the force deforming it.
