How to carry out the sodium hydroxide test
Add a few drops of sodium hydroxide to your solution and note the colour of the precipitate and then add the excess sodium hydroxide and note any changes

Pour around 1cm of sodium solutions into 5 different test tubes. Add a few drops of hydrochloric acid to each solution. Then add 1cm depth of barium chloride solution.
