P1 - Energy Flashcards
What are the 4 main ways of energy transfer
Mechanically, Electrically, Heating and Radiation
What does an open system do
It can transfer energy and matter to its surroundings
What does a closed system do
It transfers energy but not matter to its surroundings
What does an isolated system do
It doesn’t transfer energy or matter from its surroundings
What is energy measured in
Joules (J)
Will a book that is 5N on a shelf have a higher or lower Gravitational Potential Energy store than a book on the same shelf that is 10N
The 5N book will have a lower Gravitational Potential Energy store
What is gravitational field strength measured in
newtons over kilograms (N/kg)
How do you find out the extension of a spring
Measure how long it is when not stretched and then stretch it and measure that distance and subtract the starting distance from that
What is the spring constant measured in
Newtons per metre (N/m)
If an object has a high specific heat capacity does it heat up slowly or quickly
Slowly
What is velocity measured in
metres per second (m/s)
If an object has a high specific heat capacity does it cool down slowly or quickly
Slowly
If an object has a low specific heat capacity does it heat up slowly or quickly
Quickly
If an object has a low specific heat capacity does it cool down slowly or quickly
Quickly
If an object has a high specific heat capacity does it cool down slowly or quickly
Slowly
