What is “IMAP” used for?

A

When receiving email! Helps have less memory in the local computer as the emails will be present in the server and not get downloaded to the users mail box

What is “POP” used for?

A

When receiving emails as well. Difference however is that POP does download the entire email into the local computer, and deletes it off the server. This is useful in a server with less free memory.
