Austria
- land taken to create new countries like Czechoslovakia
- 30,000 in army, no conscription, no navy
- forbidden to unite with Germany

People in Turkey revolted over the Treaty of Sèvres so the British replaced it with this treaty
-> proved that the treaties couldn’t be enforced and that Britain was willing to undermine treaties

Why didn’t USA join the league
A
- didn’t want American soldiers to die sorting out European problems
- the USA believed in freedom for individual countries and didn’t want to support B+F
- didn’t want to waste their own money
- isolationist policy

Said that members of the league would work together to ensure that any member threatened with war was protected by other members

Why were extremists attractive
A
- they were more likely to look after the unemployed
- promised to take land by force -> population would have space, food and resources
- used the promise of war overseas to distract from home issues
- found people to blame for their problems
