Q

Step 1

A

Rinse pipette and conical flask with your alkali and discard, then pipette 25cm^3 of base into the conical flask (ensure the bottom of the meniscus is touching the 25cm^3 mark)

Step 2

A

Add a few drops of your indicator into the conical flask (methyl orange is yellow in alkali conditions and phenolphthalein is pink/purple in alkali conditions)

Step 3

A

Rinse your burette with acid and discard, ensure the tap is closed then fill the burette with acid to a suitable level using a funnel (ensure it doesn’t pass the 0 mark)

Step 5

A

First perform a ‘rough’ titration, open the burette tap and swirl the conical flask. As soon as you notice specs of pink in the alkali, close the tap slightly to slow down the acid. Finally, when your alkali turns slightly pink, stop and record the volume of acid used to 2dp (read from bottom of meniscus)
