Oxygen Systems and Aircrew Clothing Flashcards
What does ALSE stand for?
Aviation Life Support Equipment
What is the primary purpose of ALSE?
For both aircrew and passenger:
- Preserve life
- Prevent injury
- Environmental protection
Under peacetime conditions, rescue resources will arrive on site within ________ in Canada and _________ globally
48 hours in Canada, 72 hours globally
What are the 3 classes of ALSE?
Class 1 - Aircraft mounted
Class 2 - Personal ALSE
Class 3 - Survival/medical kits
What is the difference between On Demand breathing oxygen and Diluter, Demand oxygen?
On demand (normal breathing, when you inhale)
Diluter (Air diluted until 100% oxygen reached)
What is the difference between Pressure breathing and Constant flow?
Very similar.
Pressure breathing (does it for you, gradually increases in pressure)
Constant flow (forced automatically to user constantly)
What are the 3 Oxygen Storage containers?
Fixed oxygen (GOX, SOX, LOX)
Portable Oxygen (Oxygen mask)
OBOGs (Engine powered)
What is the colour of HIGH pressure fixed oxygen system (example: GOX)
Green
What is the colour of LOW pressure oxygen system (ex: MB-1 cylinder)
Yellow, MB-1 is a portable unit
T or F: SOX is a Solid Oxygen and can be found in black Aviox packs
True, also rarely used
What is the difference between PBE and EPOS masks?
PBE (Protective Breathing Equipment) is for CREW (2x oxygen bottles)
EPOS (Emergency Passenger Oxygen System) is for PASSENGERS (1x oxygen bottle)
What is the Narrow Panel Regulator?
The box were used to (diluter, demand, and automatic pressure breathing)
What are the altitude ranges for the Narrow Panel regulator?
<32,000 ft (auto adjusts)
32,000 - 100% Oxygen
>32,000 - 43,000 - 100% Positive pressure oxygen
What are the two types of GOX?
High pressure (Green) and low pressure (Yellow)
What are the 2 types of masks used on course?
HA/LP masks (ejection crew, Group 1) and Quick Don SHP (non-ejection crew)
