2,3-BPG and oxygen affinity
A
▪️BPG binds to haemoglobin and causes it to have a lower affinity of oxygen in the tissues.
▪️this means that it is better at offloading oxygen to tissue cells
▪️foetal Hb does not bind very well with BPG compared to maternal Hb therefore it has a higher affinity to oxygen at the placenta

A
▪️oxygen storing monomeric protein
▪️only exists in muscles and is released when there is damage to muscles
▪️has a high affinity of oxygen in muscles
▪️stores oxygen for working muscles

Carbon dioxide transport in blood
A
▪️7% is dissolved in plasma
▪️23% binds to Hb (HbHCO2)
▪️70% present as HCO3-
