A collection of services available on-demand via the Internet. The services are hosted at a remote data centre managed by a Cloud Service Provider (CSP).

A
A geographic location where AWS houses its infrastructure (data centres).

AWS Availability Zone
A
A distinct location within a Region that is insulated from failures in other AZ. AZs in the same Region are connected via redundant, ultra high speed, and low latency networks

AWS Local Zone
A
An extension of an AWS Region in geographic proximity to users. Resources created in a LZ can serve apps that require low latency, meaning that LZ are deployed close to large populations or IT centres.
