Overview Anatomy and Development Flashcards
When do primary teeth start to erupt?
6 months
Which primary teeth erupt first?
Lower central incisors
When is the primary dentition complete?
Around 2.5 years
When does the mixed dentition stage start?
6 years
Which teeth erupt first in the mixed dentition stage?
Lower central incisors
When is the permanent dentition established?
Around 12 years
What are the 2 main phases of eruption with permanent teeth?
6-8 years; 10-12 years
What teeth erupt between 6 and 8 years?
Incisors and 1st permanent molars
What teeth erupt at 10 years?
Lower canines and 1st premolars
What teeth erupt at 11 years?
Upper canines and 2nd premolars
What teeth erupt at 12 years?
2nd permanent molars
What is the curvature of spee?
The curvature of the mandibular occlusal plane: starts at the tip of lower incisors and ends at the anterior mandibular ramus
Spacing of primary teeth?
To maintain a class 1 molar relationship (combined width C,D,E is greater than 3,4,5 because less teeth means need to maintain the space somehow!)
Describe the Class 1 Incisor Relationship
The lower central incisor edges occlude with the upper central incisor central plateaus.
What is the commonality between Class 2 Division 1 and 2 Incisor Relationship
The lower central incisor edges sit posteriorly relative to the upper central incisor central plateau.
What is the difference between Class 2 Division 1 and 2 Incisor Relationship?
In class 1 - the upper central incisors are either proclined or of an average inclination; increased overjet
In class 2 - The upper central incisors are retroclined and there is often a minimal overjet
Describe a Class 3 Incisor Relationship
The lower central incisor edges sit anteriorly relative to the upper central incisor plateaus; reduced or reversed overjet
Describe a Class 1 Molar Relationship
The mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary 1st molar occludes in line with the buccal groove of the mandibular 1st molar
Describe a Class 2 Molar Relationship
The mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary 1st molar occludes anterior to the buccal groove of the mandibular first molar
Describe a Class 3 Molar Relationship
The mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary 1st molar sits posterior to the buccal groove of the mandibular 1st molar
When do neural crest cells migrate?
4th week human embryonic development
