Narrow conception of International Development arose after WW2, ensemble of institutions, policies, disciplinary formulations and most importantly practices of intervention. continued attempt to complete european enlightenment. linked to historical processes of establishing power relations.
Eurocentrism
A world view that places Europe at the centre of history, social analysis, politics. Europe provides the best and only model for world history, cultural and political systems and ideal course of development. (Dic of Human Geo)
Neoliberalism
A political approach that favours the free-market. based on capitalism, deregulations, reduction in governmental spending. Desirability of a society organised around self-regulating markets and free from social and political interventions. Linked to SAPs
SAPs
Series of economic measures that were imposed on governments when receiving loans from IMF/WORLD BANK to pay off debts. The programmes were aimed to encourage exports, increase the resources they have available for short term balance payments, reduce state spending, cut wages, while maintaining growth. Their success is more than questionable.
Beyond Aid Model
The idea that policies need to address the underlying cause of poverty and meet humanitarian needs. create more equal partnerships, building a social contract between Government and their people that improves current lives and future prospects. Move away from AID.
Right to Develop
Inalienable human right by virtue of which every human person and all people are entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realised.
HRBA
Normatively based on international human rights standards. operationally directed to promote and protect human rights. Achieve positive transformation of power relations. focus on accountability of the duty bearers and the ability to ensure this for rights holders. create avenues for hearing voice. 4 main principles of participation, accountability, equality, non-discrimination, transparency, and empowerment.
Participation approach
Seek to engage local populations in development projects. taken a variety of forms since the 1970s, becoming more mainstream. Radical roots based on the restructuring of society. 4 main principles of dialogue, participation, cultural identity and empowerment

mobilising the self-help efforts of the poor rather than just providing aid. empowering the previously disadvantaged sections of the population
accountability
making sure organisation, ODA show efficiency in achieving its legitimate and duly authorised goal. Setting clear goals and being responsible for delivering these
Philanthrocapitalism
Profitable organisations incorporating social impact. Mirrors the business model, for-profit capitalism world. Working for the good of mankind while gaining power, legitimise wealth
Charity consumerism
When the consumers needs are met, the business achieves profit and a social issue is positively effected. takes the responsibility of the charitable donation away from the consumer and ties the philanthropic action to consumers do naturally
brand aid
3 pillars, brand, celebrity, cause. combined meaning of aid to brands and and brands that provide aid. mechanism that helps selling products, building the brand image, enables large capitalist corporations to attach their name to a good cause.
Green Growth
Fostering economic growth, development while ensuring that natural assets continue to provide the resources and enviro services on which we rely on. continued economic expansion is comptiable with our plant, if we de couple GDP growth from resource use and fossil fuels and carbon emissions.
Green New Deal
public policy to address climate change along with achieving other social aims like job creation, reducing inequality. 3 objectives, economic recovery, poverty eradication, reduced carbon emissions and ecosystem degradation
