What is child health
Age related specialty that includes ages 0-14, usually up to 16 and occasionally up to 18
Includes versions of all adult specialties – e.g. paediatric renal
What are the risks of being premature
more likely to develop slowly
More likely to get ill
Higher mortality
RDS - lack of surfactant
How does neglect affect development
Can lead to abnormal development
If not fed properly you wont grow
If parents don’t engage or stimulate you then language and communication skills wont develop
What diseases do infants mostly get
Mainly infections
Respiratory, GI etc
What are the main causes of illness in school age/adolescent kids
Mostly accidents
Risk taking behaviour such as drugs and alcohol in the older group
At which age does the majority of childhood death occur
In the first year of life
Neonatal mortality
Very vulnerable stage
