Overview Flashcards
Learning basics
Infantile Epilepsy
GLUT-1 deficiency
CSF lymphocytes
viral, fungal,tubercular,CNS infections/inflammation, lymphoma
Oligoclonal bands
nonspecific marker; intrathecal synthesis of IgG
Infectious/inflammatory meningitis
Pacymeninges-inflammatory meningitis
Leptomeningeal-infectious meningitis
The venous flow of deep structures
internal vertebral veins and the basal veins of Rosenthal –>empty into great vein of Galen–> straight sinus
CSF flow
2 lateral ventricles producing CSF via choroid plexus –> third ventricle via foramina of monro–> fourth ventricle via cerebral aqueduct in the midbrain –>subarachanoid space via foramen of Magendie (midline) and foramina of luscka (lateral) to bathe outer surface of the brain and spinal cord. 1/2 liter per day about 20ml/hr
communicating hydrocephalus
failure of CSF reabsorption in the arachanoid granulations (i.e cryptococcal meningitis/NPH)
