Overview Flashcards
If blood flow stops for even a few minutes….
hazardous waste will accumulate and cells will starve
the lymphatic system provides
constant protection by repairing injuries and fighting infections
blood has three main types of cells called
erythrocytes , leukocytes and thrombocytes
erythrocytes are
red blood cells
erythrocytes function is
to bring oxygen to cells of the body and take away waste
leukocytes function is
to fight infection
thrombocytes function is
to patch
what are the most common blood cells in the blood
red blood cells
Red blood cells contain a substance called
hemoglobin
blood contains different types of white blood cells called
neutrophils, lymphocytes, basophils and eosinophils
the body make special protective proteins called
immunoglobulins
immunizations are means of forcing the body to make
immunoglobulins against dangerous illnesses
Platelets are the
smallest of the cells in the blood
platelets job is to
patch up any broken blood vessels
when a vessel is injured , it attracts
platelets that clump together to form a sticky patch
the lymph system includes
vessels, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen and thymus
the lymphatic system plays a huge role the bodys
immune system
lymph vessels carry
immune proteins to all parts of the body
lymph nodes and the spleen act as
filters in the body
