Waste creates a number of big issues for urban
authorities and planners. Inadequate waste disposal
can be linked to air and water pollution, both of which
have a negative impact on human health. It is also
becoming increasingly expensive to deal with waste
as space for landfill is running out and treatment of
waste through incineration is costly. Methane (CHA), a
potent greenhouse gas, is emitted when biodegradable
waste, most importantly food and paper/card waste,
decomposes anaerobically.
