Q
Labelling theorists
A
Labelling theorists (also known as interactionists or social constructionists) take a very different approach through smaller-scale studies, focusing on how less-powerful people are controlled & labelled by others in particular settings.
Instead of seeking the causes of criminal behaviour, they ask how & why some people & actions come to be labelled as criminal or deviant, & what effects this has on those who are so labelled. Also, labelling theorists usefully do not accept official statistics as a valid picture of crime, they regard them not as hard facts, but as social constructs made through face-to-face interactions.
