Overlay Protocols Flashcards
Virutal Extensible LAN (VXLAN)
Extends Layer 2 segments over underlying network infrastructure so that tenant workload can be placed across physical pods in the data center.
Uses 24-bit segment ID known as the VXLAN network ID (VNID), which enables up to 16 million VXVLAN segments to coexist in the same administrative domain.
Improved network utilization, no longer limited by STP, layer 2 traffic and be transferred across L3, ECMP and aggregated links.
VXLAN Tunnel Endpoint (VTEP)
Maps end devices to VXLAN segments and performs encap and decap.
Has two interfaces, one switch interface in the local LAN segment, and an IP interface on the transport IP network.
Virtual Network Identifier
Identifies a specific virtual network in the data plane.
