a term that describes a story’s full progression
narrative arc
a literary term that refers to the part of a story that sets the stage for the drama to follow it introduces the theme, setting, characters, and circumstances at the story’s beginnings
exposition
an episode, plot point or event that hooks the reader into the story
inciting incident
one of the major points of a plot, or storyline; occurs after the exposition and before the climax
rising action
highest point of tension or drama in a narratives’ plot; is often when the main problem of the story is faced and solved by the main character or protagonist
climax
the sequence of events that happens after the climax of a story
falling action

resolution
a literary device that is used step-by-step in literature to highlight and explain the details about a character in a story. It is in the initial stage in which the writer introduces the character with noticeable emergence. After introducing the character, the writer often talks about his behavior; then, as the story progresses, the thought-processes of the character.
