ATRESIA CAE

Coronal bone CT in this congenital external ear malformation patient shows the ossicular fusion mass –> ankylosed to the lateral wall of the middle ear cavity. Oval window atresia is present, diagnosed by observing the narrowed oval window niche and thin bone covering the oval window itself =>

ATRESIA CAE

Coronal bone CT in a patient with congenital external ear malformation through the pyramidal eminence ~> demonstrates the mastoid segment of the facial nerve canal at the same level as the sinus tympani => . This is anterior to its normal location

COLESTEATOMA CONGÊNITO CAE

Two-year-old girl has a longstanding neck mass and a mass in the left EAC. There is a rounded mass –> within the left EAC with associated erosion of the bony EAC posteriorly.

COLESTEATOMA CONGÊNITO CAE

On soft tissue windows (same patient), the mass extending through the tympanic plate is hypodense –> . A separate ovoid, hypodense mass => is visible along the superior aspect of the EAC with bony remodeling.

ATRESIA CAE

Coronal bone CT in a patient with mild microtia reveals the mildest form of congenital external and middle ear malformation as a narrowed EAC –> , calcified thickened TM =>, and ossicular mass fused ~> to the upper tympanic membrane.

ATRESIA CAE

Coronal graphic of the right ear shows deformed auricle with absent external auditory canal (EAC) –> . Ossicular fusion mass ~> and rotation with oval window atresia => are also present.

ATRESIA CAE

Coronal bone CT in a patient with bilateral EAC malformation shows that the left narrowed EAC canal has 2 channels: 1 aerated => and 1 with a membranous plug –>. Such a “duplicated EAC” is a rare variant seen in EAC atresia

ATRESIA CAE

Axial bone CT in a patient with severe microtia reveals a normal-appearing inner ear with a very small middle ear cavity –> and no ossicles. The absence of ossicles combined with near absence of the middle ear cavity makes surgical correction extremely difficult

ATRESIA CAE

Coronal bone CT in the same patient shows complete absence of the EAC –> associated with bilobed, hypoplastic middle ear cavity partially aerated inferiorly ~> with the ossicular fusion mass in the superolateral cavity =>.

ATRESIA CAE

Clinical photograph reveals small, severely malformed auricle with no identifiable EAC. Severe microtia will be reflected in severe EAC and middle ear malformation on temporal bone CT.

More inferiorly (same patient), the mass –> extends through the tympanic plate resulting in a sharply marginated osseous defect abutting the posterior aspect of the temporomandibular joint.

ATRESIA CAE

Axial bone CT in a patient with severe congenital external ear malformation reveals an ectopic tympanic segment of the facial nerve canal –> arching lateral to the opacified middle ear cavity.

ATRESIA CAE

Axial bone CT in a 2-year-old patient with microtia and absent EAC shows an expansile lesion in the lateral temporal bone –>. At surgery, this was found to be an associated congenital cholesteatoma associated with the congenital external and middle ear malformation

COLESTEATOMA CONGÊNITO CAE

,,Axial CECT (same patient) shows a separate nonenhancing cyst within the left parotid space . These lesions were all thought to be 1st branchial cleft cysts (BCCs). Following resection, histology revealed a BCC in the neck and epidermoid cysts or cholesteatoma in the EAC
