Output Devices Flashcards
What are the four types of Audio / Visual devices?
- CRT Monitor
- Flat-Screen Monitor
- Digital / Multimedia Projector
- Loudspeaker
What is a CRT Monitor?
A monitor that displays text and image data passed to it by the computer. This monitor is large and boxy. Its color accuracy and brightness of CRT monitors is excellent and designers need to see true-to-life colors.
What does CRT stand for?
Cathode-ray Tube
What is the Flat-Screen Monitor?
Monitors that have replaced flat screen monitors. They are light in weight and take up very little desk space. Have colors like the CRT.
What are the two technologies used in flat screen monitors?
What is the other type of technology that could replace the other two technologies?
Q1:
- TFT or Thin-Film-Transistor.
- LCD or Liquid-Crystal Display
Q2:
1. OLED or Organic Light Emitting- Diodes
What are Digital / Multimedia projectors?
They are usually used when a large viewing area is required.
A projector connects to a computer, a DVD player or a satellite receiver just like a real monitor. The image is produced inside the device and then projected out through a large lens, using a powerful light source.
What are Loudspeakers?
Used for hearing music or sounds. They convert electrical signals into sound waves
What is a Dot Matrix Printer?
They use dots in creating printouts.
These dots are formed by tiny pins it the printer’s print head that hit an inked ribbon against the paper leaving marks.
Used continuous stationary: long, continuos strips of paper.
What are the four types of Printing / Plotting devices?
- DOT Matrix Printer
- InkJet Printer
- Laser Printer
- Plotter
What is an InkJet Printer?
Uses droplets of ink to create printouts.
Squirts tiny droplets of ink onto the surface of the paper. Several colored inks can be used to produce full-color printouts.
It is very quiet in use.
The printer is cheap but its ink is very expensive.
What is a Laser Printer?
Produces marks on a paper to create print outs.
They are complex devices so they are expensive to buy. They are very cheap to use, they produce marks on a paper using a fine dust called toner which is relatively cheap to buy.
They are very fast in printing.
They are quiet when they print.
What are plotters?
Draw on the paper using a pen to create printouts. The pens are held in an arm which can lift the pen up or down, and which can move across the paper.
Colored pens can be used in making the printouts.
