Atresia - congenital, absent or narrow meatus, surgical reconstruction, conductive loss
What is Anotia / Microtia?
C - genetic and congenital, usually bilateral, likely to effect EAM
O - Malformed (microtia) or no Pinna (Anotia)
A - conductive loss
T - prosthesis, surgical reconstruction,
What is Bat Ears?
C - Absent anti helical fold, hereditary
O - Eats prominently pointed forwarded
A - little to no effect
T - surgical correction, has an effect on fitting HA
What are Pre Auriclar Tags?
C - congenital, harmless cosmetic
O - small tags of collagen tissue
A - higher risk of problems
T - burnt off or frozen off
What are pre auricular pits?
C - congenital, hereditary
O - small dimples front of helix
A - higher risk of ear infections
T - leave alone surgery may be offered
What are lacerations out ear?
C - aquired
O - Cut to the pinna
A - no effect
T - stitch together
What is perichondritis?
C - acquired, bacterial, infection of tissue that covers cartilage
O - redness pain and swelling possible fever
A - can be destructive and long lasting
T - drain fluid
What is a haematoma?
C - acquired, tissue injury due to blunt trauma
O - Bruise, blood outside the blood vessels
A - pinna swollen at point of blunt trauma
T - rest, ice, elecation, drainage
Describe cauliflower ear?
C - acquired, a not treated haemotoma
O - multiple haemotoma’s
A - no hearing loss
T - none
