3
Q

What is the density of Uranus’ moons and what does this suggest

A

around 1400 Kgm^-3
Suggests that they are made of ice and rock

4
Q

Features of Titania and Oberon

A

Heavily cratered
Not much geological activity
Less reflective than saturn’s moons (due to dirty ice surfaces)
Radiation Darkening - dark appearance due to radiation and high energy particles striking the surfaces of the moons. This causes chemical reactions that lead to build up of organic material

11
Q

Features of Triton

A

Smallest of the “large” outer solar system moons, after the Gallilean moons and Titan
Surface temp 37K
Thin nitrogen atmosphere
Nitrogen frost forms over the poles of the planet
Few craters suggests surface activity in the past
Lakes of water ices suggests water volcanism

13
Q

How does stellar occultation work in relation to Uranus

A

Light from distant star observed
As Uranus passed in front of star and light levels dropped but it also flickered 40 mins before and after the main dip

Range in radius from 44000km to 51000km

17
Q

Appearance of Uranus’ rings

A

Dark, narrow and widely spaced

18
Q

How small are the particles is Uranus’ rings

A

~1cm in diameter

19
Q

How are rings of planets held in place

A

Shepherd moons

20
Q

How many rings does Neptune have

A

5 dark rings (3 narrow, 2 broad)

21
Q

Outermost ring of Neptune

A

Adams ring, Clumped in places (looks disconnected but is continuous just very thin in some areas)
