outcome 3 part 1 Flashcards
Chemical process covert into 2 thing what is it
thermal / catalytic
Thermal Cracking Definition
process of breaking up heavy oil molecules into lighter fractions by the use of high temperatures without the aid of catalysts.
It is sometimes referred to as …………… especially when coal is the feedstock
pyrolysis
When steam is used it is called
steam cracking
Three thermal cracking processes used in refineries:
Visbreaking
Delayed Coking
Flexi Coking
A mild-temperature cracking process is used to reduce the viscosity or pour point of straight-run residuum
Visbreaking
short residence time that brings to visbreaking the concept of being a mild thermal reaction in contrast compared to the delayed coking process where residence times are much longer and the thermal reactions are allowed to proceed to completion. ( T or F)
T
The visbreaking process uses a quench operation
terminate the thermal reactions.
we have two type visbreaking and what the different between this two
coil and socking
coil use high temp
socking use low temp
what is the final product of visbreaking
1) gases
2) gasoline
3) gas oil
4) vacuum residue
process completely reduces hydrogen so that the residue is a form of carbon called
coke
explain how the delyede coke work
1) purpose this process minimizes residence time in the furnace
2) the temp of this process 480 to 515
3) we have two drum one is called fiting dram and the other one is called cutting drum
4) when the first drum filed with coke the second drum is start working and the olde drum become the cutting ( cut and remove )
5) Vapors from the top of the coke drum are returned to the bottom of the fractionator
6) final product is 1) gases 2) naphtha 3) gas oil 4) vacuum residue
explain how flex coking is work
the temp of this process is above 525
1) from reactor feedstoke and hot vapor meet and enter in the scrubber
2) scrubber is cooled the vapor and separate different part of feedstoke
3) heavy part whish have high boil temp return to the reactor
4) light part whish have low boil temp sent to other equpment to complete sepration and proccing
5) handling coke
1) reactor : absorb energy
2) heater : heat coke to provide energy need for thermal cracking
5) final product is
1) gas light
2) coker naphtha
3) light coker gas oil
4) heavy coker gas oil
Comparison between visbreaking, delayed coking , and flexi coking
