Power
The ability to influence or control the actionns of others
Authority
The possesion of a legitimate use of power
Rights
Legal, social and/or ethical principles that outline what people are allowed to do, or are the privelages that are owed by society.
Sovereignty
The exclusive right to excercise supreme authority over a geographic region., gorup of people or oneself. Sovreignty over a nation is generally vested in a government or other political agency.
Citizen
A person who is a memeber of a community whether it be political or social.
Nation-state
a group of people who share a simmilar identity through shared qualities inbetween them
State
The governance of a specific location and the people in it.
influence
A subtle use of power. Involves the use of a persuasive argument, incentives or social connections usually to achieve a goal or oobjective
Autocratic
Where power is vested in one individual who has the ability to dominate or control others
Democratic
Where power is given to the people who make decisions collectively through a representative or in a spirtit of social equality.
Conscription
The compulsory enlistment for military service enforced by a government law.
Plebiscite
When eleigibler voters cast their vote on an important publivc matter. Express the opinion or view of the people.
Liberal Democracy
a democratic system of government in which individual rights and freedoms are officially recognized and protected, and the exercise of political power is limited by the rule of law.
Social Contract
Implies a mutual agreement between rulers and the ruled. The state retains authority for the provisions that enable a society to survive
Socialism
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
