“Ouch!” said the mouse out loud with a proud shout as he crawled out of the couch one cloudy night with a pound of flour that he had found.
Suddenly a clown in his gown and his hound appeared to catch the mouse with the pound of flour.
The hound growled. The mouse hopped into the open pouch of the couch pillow and began to count. The hound slouched around the lounge looking for the mouse.
The mouse darted out of the couch and headed south for the door. The mouse quickly scurried along the ground to escape without a sound.
The mouse wound around the hound and headed for the brown stable house outside.
An big brown owl, out on the prowl, saw the mouse scurrying along the ground and gave chase.
The mouse darted into the hen house. The brown fowls in the hen house began squawking and howling and making such a noise.
The prowling brown owl got such a fright, he flew straight into the side of the hen house and hit his crown! He frowned and turned around to fly back and continue his prowl for some dinner.
The mouse crouched in the hen house.
The cow and sow in the next door stable heard all the commotion and peeked into the fowl house. They saw the hound heading towards the hen house with the clown in his gown following.
Suddenly the mouse saw his spouse wearing a new blouse, nearly drowning in the chicken feed! She too had been on the scrounge for some food.
The little mouse ran south along the hen house, hoping that his scent would be drowned out by the sound of the squawking fowls!
The cow and the sow announced that they had seen the mouse and signaled his whereabouts to the hound.
Now the mouse had to race to get to his spouse before the hound got to him!
The mouse wound around the mound of chicken feed and as he was about to grab the little hand of his drowning spouse, the hound’s mouth came near!
The hound tried to pounce on the mouse but the mouse bounced over the dog, escaping the hound’s mouth by only an inch! The mouse bounced into the chicken feed, sending his spouse shooting up into the air.
The crowd of chickens had stopped squawking and now stood watching all this!
The mouse’s spouse flew high up into the air, and then fell down towards the ground down and down and down she fell. The mouse tried to get ready to catch her… down and down she fell and then…
she landed on the hounds snout!
She bit into the hound’s snout hard! The hound howled, turned and ran out of the brown fowl house.
The brown cow raised a brow - never had she seen such bravery from a mouse!
The mouse grabbed the hand of his spouse and together they scampered out of the hen house - not even an ounce of flour was left in the bag but at least they were unharmed.
