What am I looking for during otoscopy?
“cone of light”
manubrium/malleus
normal color, no blockage from cerumen
Criteria for Referral?
- Impacted Cerumen ( completely filled with yellow, brown red color dry, flaky
- Foreign body in ear canal
- Perforation of TM( tympanic membrane)
- Blood in ear canal
- Obvious abnormality
Refer for re-screening if the patient passes hearing screening but middle ear status, TW (peak width/ gradient) is _______
> 250 daPa (age 3-12)

When should you refer for medical evaluation?
ear drainage
structural defect (visual inspection)
Cerumen impaction, foreign body, or blood in ear canal (visual inspection)
perforation of tympanic membrane
When should you refer a child for a complete Audiological evaluation?
> 20dB at 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz
When should you refer an adult for a complete Audiological evaluation?
> 25 dB at 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz
If hearing screening is within typical limits- no history of noise exposure/medical concern when should they get rescreened?
Re-screening 10 years
If hearing screening is within typical limits- positive history of noise exposure/medical concern when should they get rescreened?
Re-screening 5 years
If hearing screening is outside typical limits at any frequency what should happen?
Complete Audiological Examination
What happens if Otoscopic examination is atypical
