A

Palpate for mastoid tenderness. Palpate for tragus tenderness.

otoscope

A

Hold otoscope like a pen.
Use right hand for right ear, left hand for left.
Pull pinna upwards and backwards for adults, and downwards and backwards for children.
Look for normal anatomy and any abnormal findings.

A

At arm’s length, mask one ear and whisper numbers to the other. If unable to hear whisper, increase to normal voice volume.

Weber test – place fork centrally on forehead and ask patient if louder in right ear, left ear, or no difference.
