ALPHA ADRENERGIC DRUGS
lower IOP by reducing production of aqueous humor & increase outflow
SYMPATHOMIMETIC DRUGS
lower IOP by increasing outflow in the eye
ALPHA ADRENERGIC BLOCKING DRUGS
dapiprazole- blocks alpha adrenergic rec in smooth muscle & produces miosis through effect on the dilator muscle of the iris
BETA ADRENERGIC BLOCKING DRUGS
decrease the rate of production of aqueous humor, lowers IOP
MAST CELL STABILIZERS
prevent itching eyes, inhibit histamine from mast cells
NSAIDS
inhibit prostaglandin syntheses, exerting an anti inflammatory action
CORTICOSTEROIDS
anti inflammatory activity for eyes
TOPICAL ANTI BIOTICS
- Direct local effect
- tx primary & secondary skin infections, prevent infection in minor cuts, wounds, scrapes & burns, & tx acne vulgaris
TOPICAL ANTIFUNGALS
-Local effect by inhibiting growth of fungi
=tx athletes foot, jock itch, & ringworm, cutaneous candidiasis, & other superficial
TOPICAL ANTIVIRALS
- Acyclovir & Penciclovir
- Tx oral herpes simplex virus
- Inhibit viral activity during initial episodes of HSV or directly on lesions to speed recovery
TOPICAL ANTISEPTICS & GERMICIDES
Antiseptic- stops, slows, or prev growth of organisms
Germicides- Kills bacteria
-red # of bacteria on skin, surgical scrub & preop skin cleanser, hand hygiene, in home to cleanse skin, or prev infection on minor cuts/abrasions
TOPICAL CORTICOSTEROIDS
- localized anti inflammatory activity
- red itching, redness, & swelling
- tx psoriasis, dermatitis, rash, eczema, insect bites, 1st/2nd degree burn
TOPICAL IMMUNOMODULATORS
- Red inflammatory by stopping production of cytokines, can use on delicate areas
- use for short term; flare up eczema, actinic keratosis, warts, skin cancers
TOPICAL ANTIPSORIATICS
-tx psoriasis by helping remove the plaques associated with the disorder
TOPICAL ENZYMES
- Collagenase
- Aid in removal of dead soft tissue by hastening the red of proteins into simpler substances (proteolysis action)
- Rem necrotic tissue from dermal ulcers & sev burned areas
KERATOLYTICS
