other questions Flashcards
on your way home from drill school you come across a structure fire
I would pull over in a safe and controlled manor making sure my vehicle is not going to block emergency vehicles or hydrants. i would recognize this is an emergency, ask my classmate to call 9-1-1. we both have our nfpa certs, so my class mate could give dispatch a quick size up of the fire and smoking conditions from the exterior. I would call out to the victim, if they were responsive they could crawl to the sound of my voice. i know i don’t have the proper ppe to enter an IDLH atmosphere and if i go in i could become another victim making everything worse. I would preform a 360 was an acting LT and have done 360s before, checking for better access to the unconscious body, also assessing the fire conditions, building type, and looking for any other hazards. I am a carpenter and often have my tools in my truck i might be able to open a safer or closer access to the unconscious body. i would be considerate of all the info i have before i open anything. if there are other victims in the house introducing more oxygen into the fire could put them in more danger or change the flow path putting the unconscious victim in more danger. If i could isolate the unconscious victim from the flow path safely i could do that, after completing my 360 i would communicate to my class mate to update dispatch on my findings, victims, victim locations, and location of the fire and any other hazards i found. I would evacuate any residence and gather them to a safe area. i would gather info from them like if there were any more people in the building, location of the fire and if any one had any injuries. If there was no one else other than the unconscious body and they were withing arms reach of a window, then and only then would i consider breaking glass and pulling them out. when fire shows upi would update the fire fighters with the location of victims, fire or any other hazard i found. i would explain my class mate and i are in drill school offer to help and take any direction the captain has, weather it by flake hose, cordon off the area or any other tasks the captain needs.
once it was all over we could help clean up hose, since i am in drill school i would go in early the next day and talk with my training officers explain the situation and the steps i took. asking as a learning experience if there is any thing i should do differently next time
