Law of Retaliation, The punishment should fit the crime.
(Exodus 22:1,4,9) Laws of Restitution
A thief must pay back some multiple of what he/she stole.
(Exodus 22: 21-27) Four groups that Israelites were not allowed to wrong or oppress:
Aliens, Widows, Orphans, and the Poor.
The four parts of the Covenant with Moses:
- The Lord promises to be the God of the Israelites.
- The Condition was that the Israelites must obey the Covenant Laws
- Blood on the Altar represented God’s forgiveness and acceptance of the people.
- The blood on the people represented the promise of the people to obey the covenant laws.
What was the Significance of the Israelites and Aaron and the Golden Calf? (Exodus 32:1)
Showed how the Israelites broke Covenant laws from the very beginning, led to the anger and frustration of both God and Moses, as well as a plague let on to the people who had sinned by God.
(Exodus 32:19) What does Moses do with the stone tablets when he sees the sinning of the people and the wrongdoing of his brother Aaron?
He throws down the Stone tablets and they shatter.
(Exodus 32: 25-29) When Moses calls for “anyone that is on the Lord’s side,” who comes and why is this significant?
The sons of Levi, the Levites come, and this is the same group that Moses is part of. The Levites become the tribe of Priests.
(Exodus 32: 31-32) What does Moses say to God in hopes that he will excuse his people? What is the result?
“Alas, these people have sinned a great sin; they have made for themselves gods of gold. But now, if you will only forgive their sin- but if not, blot me out of the book that you have written.” …. God does not excuse, but instead punish those who have sinned
(Exodus 34:1) What does the Lord say to Moses afterwords (regarding the Tablets)?
Cut two tablets of store like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets, which you broke.”
