Why did Trade start?
- Trade is not a new phenomenon.
- No human society has ever had everything that it needed, forcing them to search for other sources of goods.
- There is a common human desire to fulfill our wants and needs and therefore a common desire to trade.

What is the result of Trade?
As a result of this contact culture and ideas were exchanged, as well as goods (Classical ideas spread to Europe via trade with the Islamic empires.
Today, what is international trade dominated by?
Today international trade is dominated by Transnational (multinational) corporations.
Does Transnational Corporations effect the process of globalization?
Transnational Corporations are often seen to be driving the process of globalization.
The vast majority of products and capital that moves around the world everyday is done through transnational corporations.
What are the benefits of trade?
There ARE benefits to this system.
- Many jobs are created around the world
- Decrease in poverty
- We have easy access to a wide variety of goods and services available from all around the world.
- Companies and their stockholders have increased their wealth dramatically
- Publicly funded companies (people can invest)
What are the disadvantages of trade?
There are also many disadvantages
- Growth of “ Low Level Service Jobs”
(Low-paying jobs that requires little skill/educational background and provides little opportunity for advancement which keeps people at or below the poverty line.)
- Outsourcing
(Jobs leaving to go to other countries)
- Exploitation of the poor
- Rapid expansion of the black market on a global scale
- Exploitation of the environment
- Lack of accountability
(little government regulation)

What is NAFTA?
A regulation implemented January 1, 1994 in Mexico, Canada and the United States to eliminate most tariffs on trade between these nations. The three countries phased out numerous tariffs, (with a particular focus on those related to agriculture, textiles and automobiles), between the agreement’s implementation and January 1, 2008. NAFTA’s purpose is to encourage economic activity between the United States, Mexico and Canada.
What is WTO?
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business. Promotes free trade amongst countries.

How has Communication changed over the years?
Revolutions in communication include discoveries such as writing, printing press, mail systems, telegraph, shortwave radio, telephone, satellites, computers, and internet.
How has communication pushed globalization?
The faster, and cheaper communication gets the more interdependent the world becomes
Notice that each new discovery made global communication easier, cheaper, and faster, allowing people around the world to interact on a more regular basis.
What was the revolution in the media called?
The last 20 years have seen a revolution in the media called “convergence”.
