Infective exaccerbation of COPD: antibiotics
Amoxicillin, tetracycline or clarithromycin
Community acquired pneumonia (mild, moderate, severe)
Mild: amoxicillin (5 days)
Moderate: amoxicillin and doxycycline (5 days)
Severe: co-amoxiclav (IV) and doxycycline (PO) (5 days)
Atypical pneumonia
Clarithromycin
Hospital acquired pneumonia
Co-amoxiclav (or doxy if pen allergic)
Review once cultures back
UTI (uncomplicated, complicated and septic)
Uncomplicated: trimethoprim 3 days
Complicated: trimethoprim 5 days
Septic: SEPSIS 6 (IV coamoxiclav, then switch to oral, total of 5 days)
Impetigo, cellulitis, mastitis
flucloxacillin (clarithromycin if pen allergic)
Bites (animal and human)
Co-amoxiclav
Consider tetanus, rabies (dog) and BBV (human)
Sinusitis, otitis media, peridontal abcess
Amoxicillin (erythromycin if pen allergic)
C.diff
Metronidazole (if first time)
Vancomycin (if they’ve had it before)
