Other disorders linked to dopaminergic pathways Flashcards
1
Q
How is Huntington’s linked?
A
Uncontrolled movements due to loss of striatal neurons. Lack of inhibition of dopamine neurons.
2
Q
How can we control Huntington’s?
A
D2 antagonists - tetrabenzine. However it is very difficult to reduce dyskinesia without causing akinesia.
3
Q
Is tourettes and ticking to do with dopamine?
A
Unknown origins but respond to dopamine antagonists.
4
Q
Is depression linked to dopamine?
A
Some evidence suggests role of diminished dopaminergic neurotransmission in major depression.
Could be diminished dopamine release or impaired signal transduction.
